Home is Where We Park it!
The folks who bought our house in RI have become friends over these last few months, and they sent us a fun gift - a welcome mat that reads, ‘Home is Where You Park it.’ Now that we’re entering our second full month of RV life, we’re finding that the catchy slogan holds a lot of truth. Whether we’re boondocking in a parking lot, tucked into a wooden campground, or enjoying the amenities of a fancy RV park, when we pull the shades at night and snuggle into bed, we really feel like we’re home. This is exactly how I hoped we’d feel, but of course we weren’t sure until we got started.
Travel days have their own routine. We disconnect, pack up, run through our checklist, and put our new destination into the GPS. When we arrive at our new home, we reverse the list and commence a deep cleaning before resetting everything. Usually, we’re too tired to make dinner, so we find someplace fun to go out to eat. After that, we settle in - find the gym, the yoga studio, review our work calendars, make a list of the local things we want to see and do, and start a new routine in our new home.
Some things don’t change no matter where we are, like Beatrix getting herself stuck in drawers, closets, and behind shelves. Yes, it happened again just yesterday, but thanks to YouTube, we were able to disconnect the sliders on our drawers without a major deconstruction project! Ray still likes listening to Sinatra first thing in the morning, and I still take great joy in foaming the cream in my coffee with my special frother. We love setting up our outdoor tent, strung with Edison bulbs to make it cozy, and having dinner outside. We look forward to taking Daisy on a daily walk to the dog park. It’s the little things.
There is a simplicity that’s truly satisfying in this life, and I hope even when we eventually ‘land’ somewhere permanently, we remember it.
Here’s a glimpse of our life on the move from the last two weeks…
